This project, unique in Canada, aims to expand services in interventional medicine and interventional cardiology by building the first fully integrated procedure room with state-of-the-art equipment allowing us to take patient care to the next level. In addition, this centre will make it possible to treat a greater number of patients while solidifying the busy interventional service.
This project will be crucial for ongoing development of interventional procedures and ensure state-of-the-art teaching to veterinary students and specialists alike. This integrated centre will enable us to offer a wide range of diagnostic and treatment options for conditions involving the respiratory, cardiovascular and urinary tracts.
Development of new procedures
This project will allow our specialized veterinarians to continue to develop minimally invasive procedures from which patients may fully benefit.
Teaching and Training Veterinarians
The CHUV is the only veterinary hospital in Canada that offers clinical rotations in interventional medicine. This exclusive aspect of the curriculum as well as its world-renowned reputation will continue to attract undergraduate and graduate students. This project will allow us to train students in interventional medicine and in new technologies now accessible to veterinarians.
Investment
This 2 M$ project will include a C-Arm fluoroscopy system (1 M$), an integrated display system with multiple screens for intraoperative monitoring ($200,000 to $300,000), integrated anesthesia systems ($100,000), various endoscopy towers ($150,000) as well as the necessary infrastructure.
The Centre of Excellence in Interventional Medicine will make the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire a pioneer in interventional medicine at an international level.
