SCINTIGRAPHY (NUCLEAR MEDICINE)

Only offered to companion animals and horses.

Scintigraphy is the latest addition to our imaging department’s arsenal. The CHUV has acquired equipment with motion correction software adapted to animals under sedation. Scintigraphy (or nuclear medicine) evaluates the function of an organ following the injection of a radiopharmaceutical (99Tc).

Scintigraphy of bony structures is the exam the most performed at the CHUV and allows detection of lesions to bones and joints that would have gone undiagnosed on x-rays. Images are taken with a gamma camera which allows the observation of the distribution of the radiopharmaceutical in the affected area of the bone.

Scintigraphy is non painful and there are no side effects for the animal.
