Animal Behavioral Medicine Service
Undesirable behaviours can be simple or quite complex and can have many different causes. Behaviour changes can be either the result of an underlying disease, a normal yet unpleasant behaviour or a primary behavioral problem such as anxiety, hyperactivity and phobias.
The veterinary behaviorist is a specialist trained in the psychology of learning, behavioral genetics, behavioral physiology, psychopharmacology and behavioral endocrinology. A behaviorist can therefore analyse both the medical and behavioral components of a problem. From there, the specialist will be able to determine whether the animal needs behavioral therapy, elaborate a therapeutic plan and prescribe medication when indicated.
