About the farm animal hospital

The Centre hospitalier universitaire vétérinaire’s farm animal Hospital is an important centre of expertise for the farming community of Quebec. It offers additional services to those offered by over 350 veterinary practitioners that go directly to the farms. The farm animal Hospital receives over 1000 animals every year, composed mainly of dairy cows, yet also of beef cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, lamas and alpacas. Animals are referred by veterinarians from all over Quebec and the neighboring provinces for complex problems that require either expert advice or specialized care and equipment. Our focus is not only to treat the animals but to obtain a precise diagnosis when possible.

A large variety of medical and surgical problems are seen at the farm animal Hospital, which allows the students to maximize their clinical experience. The CHUV’s specialists are in fact often called upon to investigate new and more complex problems.

The farm animal Hospital’s objectives are to discover the cause and treatment of diseases, to improve and refine diagnostic tools such as ultrasound, laparoscopy and endoscopy as well as to develop innovative surgical technics.
