The Equine Foundation of Canada is dedicated to supporting people who help horses. We recently interviewed Helen Belliard, the Quebec representative of the Foundation. Although Ms. Belliard’ s love of horses dates back to her early childhood on a farm in Missouri, she fell in love with the Morgan breed in particular, as a teenager. Her passion for horses led her to serve on the board of the Canadian Morgan Horse Association where she first met George Wade. George was passionate about equine health and welfare and created The Equine Foundation of Canada in 1983 and was its president until his death in 1997. Ms. Belliard has also worked in the Foundation since its creation. A lifetime dedicated to equine care! Ms. Belliard’ s philanthropic values are a family heritage from her grandfather and her parents!
One of the most rewarding parts of Ms. Belliard’ s work is contributing to equine veterinary education. The Equine Foundation’s program funds the five Canadian Universities that have veterinary medicine program on a rotation basis.
Helen Belliard and The Equine Foundation of Canada are extremely proud to support the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of University of Montreal. Their contribution will have a direct impact on higher education in accordance with their motto: “People helping people helping horses”.
The $50,000 gift in 2020 will enable us to purchase an equine palpation model for our future Veterinary Simulation Center.
The Veterinary Simulation Centre will allow veterinary undergraduate students to learn and practice their clinical skills and gain confidence in a safe environment before progressing into the clinical environment. The acquisition if this equipment will allow us to deliver state-of-the-art Veterinary Teaching in Quebec. We express our sincere gratitude to the Equine Foundation of Canada for their exemplary and continuing support of Veterinary Education in Canada.
