Equine dynamic respiratory endoscope

The equine hospital has added a dynamic respiratory endoscope (DRE) to their state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic facilities.

The purchase of the DRE was made possible thanks to a donation of 20 000 $ from the Equine Foundation of Canada (EFC) represented in Quebec by Mrs Hélène Belliard, and because of financial contributions from the Equine Veterinary Association of Quebec (AVEQ), Dr Jean Bernier, Mr and Mrs Davis and from the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vétérinaire (CHUV).

The endoscope is a complement to the treadmill already used at the equine hospital. It is particularly adapted for use in performance horses since it allows the veterinarian to accomplish exams in the animal’s natural environment such as during a race or in a paddock. The DRE is not only an important diagnostic aid but also a valuable teaching tool.
